Cookie Policy
This policy explains which cookies UPayments uses, what they are for and how you can manage them. In short: this site stores nothing in your browser, and the merchant dashboard uses only the cookies it needs for you to sign in and operate securely.
01
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser when you visit it. It lets the site remember something from one page to the next: that you signed in, or which language you chose.
Alongside cookies there are equivalent technologies, such as the browser’s local storage. Everything we say here about cookies applies to them as well.
02
Where we use them
The public UPayments site, the one you are reading, sets no cookies and stores no data in your browser: it uses no analytics or advertising tools, and its fonts, images and videos are served from our own servers.
The merchant dashboard (merchant.upayments.cr) does use cookies, because without them it could not keep you signed in or protect your account. We do not use them to build advertising profiles and we do not sell them to third parties.
03
Categories
- Essential: they keep your session and protect your forms. Without them the dashboard does not work, which is why they cannot be turned off.
- Preferences: they remember choices of yours, such as the language. If you delete them, the dashboard works the same and goes back to its defaults.
04
The cookies in the merchant dashboard
| Cookie | Category | What it does | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session | Essential | Keeps you signed in while you use the dashboard. | Session |
| Security | Essential | Protects the dashboard’s forms against forged requests. | Session |
| Preferences | Preferences | Stores interface settings, such as the language or the currency you view your balance in. | 6 months |
05
Third-party cookies
None of our pages load third-party content that sets its own cookies. If we ever embed external content —a video or a map— we will say so in this policy before we do.
06
How to manage them
You can delete or block cookies whenever you want from your browser settings. If you block the essential ones, the public site will keep working as usual, but you will not be able to sign in to the dashboard.

07
How long they last and what happens to your data
The duration of each cookie is in the table above. Session cookies are deleted when you close the browser; persistent ones expire after the stated period or when you delete them.
Cookie data is used only for the purposes this policy describes, in line with Costa Rica’s Law 8968 on the Protection of Persons regarding the Processing of their Personal Data.
08
Changes to this policy
If we add new cookies or change what they are for, we will update this page and, where appropriate, ask for your consent again. The date of the last update appears at the top.
